FPT: Incredibly Slow Internet Service

For well over a week now, the internet here in Vietnam has been unbelievably slow. Apparently, this only affects the companies of FPT and Viettel due to an offshore cable that has been severed. For me, the internet is vital to keeping in contact with friends and family back home in the states as well as keeping abreast of the world's current events since I have no English-speaking news channels on tv. Watching videos is frustrating, to say the least, and I've HAD IT with FPT! It's been over a week already. Can you people just get off your asses and do something to address the problem? -or at least offer your customers some type of compensation for the crap service you've provided!

Below is a snapshot I took of a video I was trying to download. 13 minutes for a 32 meg file. Really?

wow I was just browsing through the internet and this post is really new. You wont believe my story mate. I live in Vietnam too and I am subscribed to FPT too. (I'm 14 years old btw form Sweden)My dad installed fiber cables at our house like 2 months ago and we were expecting 30 mbps. We all knew that we weren't gonna get 30 mbps cuz Vietnam is vietnam. instead we got 3 mbps -_-. When we download or upload things connected to servers outside asia it's only <3 mbps. but I actually ran a speedtest that gave me results of 15 mbps download rate and 10 upload rate. why the hell isn't it 15 mbps then when I download crap. oh thanks fpt you gave me fast internet for asian servers well too bad asia doesn't even have crap on the internet so what is the point of having fast internet just inside asia? I need a solution so I can download/upload/load things from servers outside asia fast because I use a lot of stuff from USA and European servers and by servers I mean websites and programs hosted by european/american people. please help. I have the greatest internet setup possible in vietnam and I still just get around 3 mbps on the speedtest. I actually just get around 70 kbps when I download things. HELP!

I have found some solutions that can make slight improvements. Change your operator to viettel. It is said that they have faster connection. change your DNS to 8.8.8.8-8.8.8.4 (google public) this will increase your internet speed when downloading or uploading things to and from servers outside Vietnam. install fiber cables, although they might be expensive they are worth it.

VNPT seems to be hit and miss. Some customers are unaffected; some have slow service. Supposedly, the cable was fixed yesterday, but I'm still encountering slow downloads on videos. Such is life, I guess.

I have Viettel and a service tech came today and tried to see what the problem was. I know for a fact that there has been a vital line severed near Vung Tau and it has slowed things down for sites internationally for all ISP's. I was going to switch but if FPT is the same then I guess I will just have to wait it out.

In the first days of June my download speed dropped to an average of 4.2KB/s.
I called Viettel (HCMC)and they send some guys who claimed some international cable to be broken. I'd have to wait until end of June.

Until today nothing changed. So I called in again and Viettel told me same story again. This time I would have to wait until end of July. Of course, no refund was offered.

When asking some friends who also use Viettel service - they have no problem, speed is normal.

I'm living in VN quite some years and tried almost all other provider in town. All crap, but Viettel beats them all.

Well i got VNPT and thats the most unrealiable and unstable connection i ever had in my life, and the worst service EVER, viatell cant be anything compared to VNPT.

Its one of the things i hate here, service is non-existing and they just want to rob you of your money, ive not been to countries where its as bad as it is here.

Lies and they just fuck you sideways when you have had a service for a short while.

The 'severed' undersea Internet cable thing is prob due to some upstanding Vietnamese citizen once again cutting out (stealing) a section of cable to sell it for a quick buck. I lived in Vietscam for 3yrs and this was a fairly frequent story in the paper, referred to as "a problem". The thief(s) probably then went home and wondered why their Internet wasn't working...that's about how far ahead they think. But the quick 100,000 dongles they each would have made (about US$5), was obviously worth it. No need to worry about National pride or personal integrity/decent behavior...this is Vietnam. Such concepts don't even register in their braincell.

That's Vietnam for you, the land of horrible services, mean people and blind customers (not all of them, just about 99,99%)

reply: OMG when i put the DNS in the internet was like double faster!.
recommend: Guys use viettel because VNPT sucks, their internet is only around 2mbps! while Viettel have a deal for around 4mbps and more!

Thank you Anonymous. I use FPT and pay for 10mbps in Hai Duong. It starts off early in the morning 8.30 am at 2mbps and then gradually diminishes during the day until about 5pm (when people get home) when it almost stops. I think I need to check with your recommended Viettel and see what they have to offer.

here are some lies u guys heard :
-some Vietnamese stealing the cable for quick bucks
- undersea cable got problem due to sharks

-the truth is this country is under communism and got no freedom of speech so the ISP associate with the big gov to make the internet unable to load to censor some politic scandals , 1 more thing is dont switch to another ISP in hope that u will get better service ( well ur not because in Vietnam we dont have free market economy so no competitor against them , they are basically the exclusive company so they can do wtf they want and u have no choice but to use their service
